Kyhn painted forests,
lakes, open fields, coastal scenery, and the rolling landscapes of Denmark. His
compositions often feature broad skies, low horizons, and carefully observed
effects of sunlight and cloud. Greens, browns, and muted blues give his oils a
restrained naturalism, while freer brushwork suggests shifting weather. He
became particularly interested in evening light and the subtle colours of
twilight.
