Ludwig Richter was a
German painter, illustrator, and printmaker associated with the Romantic
movement. Born in Dresden in 1803, he became famous for his detailed
landscapes, wood engravings, and scenes of rural life that celebrated nature,
family, and traditional values. Richter studied in Italy, where he developed
his artistic style. His illustrations for books and folk tales were especially
popular.
