Le Roman de ma femme (The Woman's Tale, 2011) dir. Jamshed Usmonov

Set in a remote Tajik village, Le Roman de ma femme follows a woman whose husband has disappeared while working abroad, leaving her to raise their children and navigate the daily hardships of life alone. When news arrives that he may never return, she is forced to confront questions of survival, dignity, and the future she wants for herself and her family.

At its heart, the film is about absence. The missing husband becomes more than a character; he is a symbol of the countless men who leave their homes in search of work, creating families suspended between hope and uncertainty. Usmonov explores how migration reshapes communities, leaving women to carry both the emotional and practical burdens of everyday life.
