Albert Birkle was born
in Berlin-Charlottenburg, 1900. Some of his artworks were declared to be
degenerate art and were confiscated by Nazis. During the Second World War,
Birkle managed to avoid military service by volunteering for Reich labour
service. As a dedicated pacifist, he worked as a war artist, painted a fresco
at the barracks in Glasenbach, but was sent to France as a war correspondent. The painting here is just an example of his prolific work.
