      O poema gira em torno da história militar americana: Dylan conta que nos bancos da escola do Midwest lhe ensinaram a história da guerra contra os índios, da guerra Hispano-americana, da Guerra Civil, da I e da II Guerras Mundiais, da Guerra Fria sem lhe falarem de culpados. Todos feriam e matavam, também em nome de Deus. Dylan então questiona "Será que Judas Iscariotes quando beijou Jesus Cristo também tinha Deus do lado dele?" Escrever isto aos 22 anos é obra.
