The heart of the Irish is close to the Creator! Sweet Comeragh, the song is a lament for the beauty of
the mountains, streams and meadows of Comeragh in County Waterford in Ireland.
It was composed by Fr. Maurus Ó Faoláin who was born and raised at the foot of
the Comeragh Mountains. Its first lines say:
On your shining streams and your leafy woodlands
Your honeyed slopes and your gleaming meadows
My heart fills with love for all of them surely
Sweet Comeragh.
Now, listen to the singer and check how difficult and
beautiful it is the spelling.
Beir beannacht óm chroí dod thír is dod' shléibhibh
A Chumaraigh Aoibhinn Ó
'S dod' mhuintir shuairc
ar dual dóibh féile
A Chumaraigh Aoibhinn Ó
Do shrutháin gheala 's
do choilte craobhach,
Do ghleannta meala 's do
bhánta léire,
Ó grá mo chroí iad súd
le chéile
A Chumaraigh Aoibhinn Ó.
